Winter Haven, Florida: Cyprus Gardens

I believe the original Cyprus Gardens in Winter Haven was once described as Florida's first theme park, dating back decades. There were plenty of gardens, of course, but the picture most people remember is the pyramid of people (10?) on water skis.

The facility fell on hard times late last century, with so much competition just up the road in Orlando. Indeed, it was a nice enough place to visit but it was easy imagine that today's kids would have found it a little too calm. The picture above was taken shortly before closure.

However, Cyprus Garden was only shuttered for a short time. Legoland Florida is there now. We'll see how this one does over time. Meanwhile, want to see what it used to look like?
