If you are the leader of your region, you probably have a statue of you up somewhere in that great land you ran. Such is the case for Luitpold, the Prince Regent of Bavaria. He was saluted in this manner in a park in Bamberg.
You should know that Luitpold ran Bavaria from 1886 to 1912. He got the job when two of his nephews were declared mentally unfit for duty. Do we think the fix was in?
Anyway, Luitpold hung around for a quarter-century until his death at the age of 90. He wasn't a particularly activist ruler, but apparently he was a nice guy and good to the people. That will help get you that statue built.
