Bamberg, Germany: Maximilian Square

This is a mighty big square in downtown Bamberg, and it's called Maximilian Square when translated. As you might have guessed, that's Max on top of the fountain shown here.

Maximilian was the King of Bavaria from 1806 to 1825.The history is a little complicated when it comes to that era. A slightly ignorant American could figure out that he was on Napolean's side but switched teams at one point. Max turned up at the Congress of Vienna, when a new world order was established that lasted about a century in certain ways.
