Pope John Paul II paid a visit to Lyon in 1986. As he looked down upon the city from the hilltop, he blessed the city as one.
About 25 years later, Lyon returned the favor. A statue was constructed of the Pontiff and placed in the plaza in front of the church on the hilltop. It checks in at seven tons.
Pope John Paul II sure did a lot of traveling, so it's easy to guess that statues like this can be found all over the world.
