Strasbourg, France: Broglie Square

It looks like this building is going through some renovation. Too bad we didn't get to see it without the attachments.

This spot in central Strasbourg has had a variety of residents over the years. For our purposes, the story gets interesting in 1870, when the building on that site was bombed. So the place was rebuilt by the Crédit Foncier (Land Bank) of Alsace and Lorraine in 1873. If you like your banks to be stable, be aware that the company still has an office here. A few other families live in apartments there; heck of a location.

The Cafe Broglie part of the story goes along with this. It was located in this building until, yes, 1870. That put an end to the business for a while, but it was reborn down the street ... until 1968. The building came down then, and the cafe moved to yet another location in the 1980s. It's still there today.
