Bergen, Norway: Mount Floyen

When someone is dropped in the middle of Bergen, it can be tough to get the bearings about how everything fits together. There is a solution for that. Take the funicular up the hill known as Floyen, or Mount Floyer if you prefer. It takes about eight minutes to go up about 1,000 feet. The wait to get on might be a little longer than that, depending on the time of day.

The first stop lets you into something of a different world, a park with all sorts of attractions. A big restaurant is one of them, and that dates back many years. But there's an ice cream stand if you want to take it down a notch. 

There's plenty of territory for walking, all along the edge of the mountain side. One of the best parts if that a few goats are residents of the area. Yes, you can pet them and take a photo with them. Feeding isn't allowed, since they get all the food they need from the adjoining forest. A playground is on the grounds, and you can go for a hike at that altitude or walk down.
