Mareeba, Australia: Cattle Statue

We try to cover all of the top sights in a trip, and this one is way off the radar. Our group was coming back from a hot-air balloon adventure when it was time to take a, um, rest stop. A little plaza was set up to handle such things.

While waiting for everyone to take care of business, we spotted this statue of a bull - but not just any bull. It's a tribute to Brahman Cattle, which sound like something that should be bred in Boston but in reality can be found in northeast Australia. This particular type of animal was introduced to the area in 1933, and it changed cattle production for good. The Brahman apparently liked the climate a great deal.

A group of cattle farmers got together in 1946, and formed an association to look after their interests.  It became known as the Australian Brahman Breeders Association in 1954.  They celebrated the 50th anniversary of the group in 1996 with the sculpture and a sign.

Any other travel sites cover this spot? I don't think so.
