Niagara Falls, New York: Goat Island

Niagara Falls has spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to move tourists in the area of the Falls themselves. Traffic patterns seem to change every few years, and roads are left unused. Maybe they'll get it right someday.

But in the meantime, most people figure out a way to see the sights. And it's worth the effort.

The biggest attraction on Goat Island certainly is Terrapin Point, which overlooks the Horseshoe Falls. The State has doen some work on the area, so you can walk up to the edge of the water. It's an amazing feeling just standing there.

There are other items of interest. Cave of the Winds goes down into the rock for a closer look at the bottom. The Three Sisters Islands are connected to each other by bridge a bit upstream, and are quite pretty. And the east end of Goat Island is relatively empty, as those strolling the edge usually only have cars in a lot for company. But, as the photo shows, you can get a great photo of birds resting on the rocks just off the shore.
