Everyone wants to see the big waterfall between the United States and Canada when visiting Niagara Falls, and deservedly so. Its power is almost overwhelming, and its beauty is surprising.
That leaves the American Falls a little underrated. On the other hand, you can get very, very close to that attraction with a little walking.
Visitors simply have to cross over a small bridge from Goat Island (the big one on the American side), and then walk over the Bridal Veil Falls (small as these things go) to get to Luna Island. You can almost touch the water as it prepares to plunge to the pool below.
Ever wonder how Luna Island got its name? When observers way back when used to stand on the island during a full moon, they could see a "lunar rainbow" caused by the mist. That was unusual enough to give it the name.
