Waterbury, Vermont: Ben and Jerry's Factory Tour
One of the biggest tourist attractions of Vermont is located about a half-hour east of Burlington. Apparently no one can resist the temptation of free ice cream.
Ben & Jerry's offers a nice 30-minute tour of its factory in Waterbury. Visitors aren't allowed to take pictures, but they do learn about the production process and the company's history. At the end, there are -- you guessed it -- free samples. Yum. The plant has a store with all sorts of Ben & Jerry's products; it's a good place to browse before and after the tour.
The company always has had a sense of humor about its work, and it is evident in the "Flavor Graveyard" located on the factory grounds. Ben and Jerry's marks the flavors that didn't quite become a commercial hit with tombstones. Here is a picture of a few of them, including "Peanuts Popcorn."
