Stowe, Vermont: Trapp Family Lodge
If you have watched "The Sound of Music," you are familiar with the story of the Von Trapps, who escaped Nazi Germany, moved to America and dropped the Von from their names. The Trapps wound up in Stowe, Vermont, because it reminded them of their native Austria. You can join them in seeing that the hills of Vermont are still alive by visiting their lodge. It's a spectacular area that might be a little expensive for some for an overnight stay, but it's certainly worth a drive up the hill to check the place out.
By the way, the children's children are still singing; they tour the country every so often.
