Rothenburg, Germany: Ratstrinkstube

It's the most popular building in Rothenburg. Thousands of tourists come to see it, usually at the top of the hour.

It was the home to the city council once upon a time. Now it holds the tourism department of the city, so you can stop in for information.

But it's the clock that is a magnet for people. In 1631, according to legend, Mayor Nusch threw more than three liters of wine down in a single gulp to save the city. I'm not sure that passes the smell test, but 50 years later a clock was installed that reenacts the scene. Hmmm. So drop by between 10 and 10 (10 and 22 European time) to see what the fuss is about. It's right on the Marketplace.
