Helsinki, Finland: Ateneum

Need some culture after a long train ride into Helsinki? Or vice-versa? The Ateneum aims to help.

The facility is part of the Finnish National Gallery, and it's right around the corner from the train station facing a nice big city square. The building has been in place since 1887, and has a variety of great features that make it worth a look when visiting the neighborhood.

If you want to go inside, well, there are treasures to be found. There is work by such artists as van Gogh, Cezanne, and Munch inside. Those are some heavy hitters. Fins also are well represented here, as you'd expect.

Maybe we can sneak inside for a minute; the guard seems to be looking the other way.
