Helsinki, Finland: Oodi (Central Library)

The list of cities in which the public library is a tourist attraction is a brief one. Helsinki, though, definitely deserves to be included.

The idea to build it first came up in 2012, and it took about 100 million Euros to build it for its opening in 2018. It's something of an architectural wonder, of course. The books take up the top floor, which has a big ceiling as well as a slight incline in one of the corners so visitors can walk up an incline and see the entire area. There is space for other purposes, such as meetings, artists' work area, video games, internet services, etc.

The idea was to make it like a big living room for the city. It seems to be working nicely.
