Ivalo, Finland: Reindeer Farm

You don't ask a reindeer farmer in North Finland how many reindeer he/she owns. It's impolite; it's like asking a business executive how much money he/she has.

An upclose visit with the critters is appreciated after seeing them along the side of the road at times while driving at that part of the world. Our tour group was warmly welcomes by one such family. First they had a nice lunch in a good-sized room. Then it was on to feed some of the reindeer residents a snack in the form of some lichen. The lunch was good; I can't speak for the quality of the lichen as a treat.

It was an appropriate way to spend a little time in Lapland.
