Kristiansund, Norway

It wouldn't be a town in Europe without some sort of tribute to those who were lost in the World Wars. Kristianund is no exception. It's interesting that a mine was chosen to commemorate the city's loss.

The translation goes something like this: "Memory of seamen from KRISTIANSUND who fell during World War 1914-1918 AND 1939--1945."

King Christian II founded the town way back in 1742. It has grown over the years, in part because of mergers with other nearby towns and villages. The waterfront seem like it's the place to be in this municipality of about 24,000 people.
