Tromso, Norway: Library and City Archives

Northern Europe seems to be quite good at producing eye-catching libraries. This is another one that fits that qualification. Part of the reason is the roof, which was preserved from the space's old occupant, a theater.

The library was constructed in 2005. There are plenty of books here, of course, but there's also room for study spaces, chess boards, and a cafe. The internet is free, so all visitors can check their email. It's even connected to a movie theater.

This has received "library of the year" status in Norway; consider yourself well informed if you knew such distinctions existed.

You can look around if you'd like. But ... no talking!
