Bilbao, Spain: Las Sirgueras

When visiting the riverfront of Bilbao today, there are few signs of its industrial past. The city formerly was involved in the shipping business at that point, and the area was busy and probably dirty. That's all been cleaned up now, but memories remain.

One such reminder might be a little surprising. "Las Sirgueras" is the name of the sculpture along the walk way. It is four women with a robe, replicating the way that those women helped bring the boats in for a safe landing back in the day. I guess there was a different definition of "women's work" back then, but those ladies come across as heroes today/
