Saint-Andre Cathedral dominates the area in downtown. It's part of a UNESCO Heritage Site that includes some of the other churches in the city.
There's been a church on this spot for more than 1,000 years, although the specifics about the early part of that stretch have faded into time a bit. But in 1096, the place was formally consecrated by Pope Urban, so we're at 928 years of service and counting.
There have been a few royal weddings over the years. One involved the future Louis VII, who married Eleanor of Aquitaine when she was, gasp, 13. When the King died, she was elevated to the job of Queen of France. Later on in her life, she became the Queen of English, which is a pretty good life's work - especially then.
Perhaps the most distinctive part of the complex is that a separate tower was built around 1440. It's had some changes over the years, but today it overlooks the area.
