Bordeaux, France - Dijeaux Gate

Welcome to Bordeaux.

This was the initial message for this structure, which has served as a gate to the city. Indeed, it's the third and latest such gate to be in this particular neighborhood.

The first one was built by the Romans way back in the 300s. A new arch was built in the 1300s not far from the original spot. It even helped Bordeaux fend off an attack from a suburban city. Then in 1748, construction began on this latest structure.

The gate has received some work over the past 60 years, and I can still report that it still looks good. You really do have to work through it if you are in the area.
