Bordeaux, France: Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux

Let's see - we're in Bordeaux in southern France, a city known for its culture. Think there is an opera house around?

Of course there is. It's the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, which opened for business in 1780. There is an appropriately grand staircase inside, and the building has lots of columns and statues to catch your eye.

Give the credit of design to Victor Louis, who went on to do some impressive work in Paris. I guess he was ready for the big leagues.

An opera company and a ballet group are headquartered in the building.

We didn't have the chance to go inside and see what the fuss was about.  The video will substitute.
