Bordeaux, France - Church of Our Lady of Bordeaux

You don't have to walk from from the Grand Theatre to find another architectural gem in Bourdeaux. A nice church is close by.

The Church of Our Lady of Bordeaux has an interesting history. In 1675, King Louis XIV was having problem keeping the loyal subjects loyal and opted to increase the military presence in the region. The ensuing destruction cost Bordeaux a church. So, a Baroque structure was started in 1684. It took a mere 23 years to finish the place in 1707.

The Church was declared an historical monument in 1908. In 1971, some of the vaults collapsed prompting a 10-year rehabilitation project that finally ended in 1981. The source material says the Church of Our Lady has great acoustics, so it's a popular spot for concerts.
