Carcassonne, France: Museum of Fine Arts

You can't walk around the walled portion of this lovely city indefinitely. Maybe a little culture would be a good change of pace. If so, Carcassonne offers the Museum of Fine Arts for your inspection and pleasure.

A group of art lovers started the collection with a donation in 1845. Slowly but surely, it has grown since then. The building has gone through some improvements along the way as well. Now it holds 11 rooms full of art, broken down by period.

By the way, the museum has been forced to close a couple of times - and you can guess the problem. World War II sent everyone home from 1942 to 1948. Then came the pandemic, which shut the place down in 2020 and 2021.

It may not be the biggest museum in France, but it has quite a wide selection of art for those who are in the mood for it.
