Unlike Casablanca, people really have been coming to Bath for the waters ... for a couple of thousand years, actually. The hot springs of the region are a natural attraction, and everything else followed.
The Old Town of Bath is quite ancient, making it a delight just to walk around. (The park around the river is particular nice.) No wonder the Netflix series "Bridgerton" has filmed some scenes here. The region has capitalized on that with a variety of attractions, including museums, galleries, restaurants, festivals, theater, and concerts. Bath spent part of 2025 celebrating the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth. By the way, Mary Shelley wrote most of "Frankenstein" here in 1817. A museum in her honor is here.
This is not a particularly big city, as it checks in at under 100,000 people. That makes it manageable, at least. It's 97 miles from London, so it's a reasonable day trip for tourists who want to get out of London for a bit of time. Six million people arrive every year, so they are doing something right here.
