London, England: Royal Albert Hall

It's hard to say if every important entertainment act played Royal Albert Hall in London at one time or another. It may seem that way at times.

Pink Floyd was there. Petula Clark's concert was filmed and aired on the BBC in 1969 as the network's first color broadcast. Lennon Lewis fought there. Eric Clapton has played there more than 200 times. Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Adele have been there. Leonard Bernstein too. The Beatles and Rolling Stones turned up at the same bill. Winston Churchill and Albert Einstein gave speeches there.

Get the idea? And that doesn't include all the other events in other categories. The UFC has even been there.

The main facility seats a bit more than 5,000 people, and other areas in the building have been used as well. Prince Albert had proposed having a public space for entertainment, but died before he could see it come true. Albert's death did give a kick-start to the idea, and Queen Victoria opened the building in 1871. Her late husband's memorial eventually would be across the street.

Knock, knock. Can we come inside?
