The Duke of Wellington in on that short list.
This tribute is located at the point where Hyde Park meets Green Park. On top of the arch is a sculpture that shows the Angel of Peace falling on the Chariot of War. It's the largest bronze sculpture of its kind in Europe. That's been in place since 1912.
The structure was built around 1827, and was supposed to be an entrance to Buckingham Palace. But it wound up in its current location in 1888. There's been some remodeling over the years to the immediate surroundings, and it's on a plot of land in the middle of what we'd call a traffic circle that's on the irregular side.
The arch does have an inside, Visitors can climb some stairs for some views of the area, and they can look at some artwork that is kept there. By the way, London's smallest police station was kept inside the arch for several decades until 1992.
I only had the chance to drive by the structure, so I was anxious to look at the inside.
