Located right on the cleverly named Trinity Bay, Trinity is quite quaint. Fishing ships have been using since around 1500 or so, and some English people decided to settle here for good in the 1700s.
Otherwise, only a little history has come out of here. John Clinch introduced the smallpox vaccine to the New World in 1798. Bob Fowler of the village once set a world record in the marathon in 1909. He ran a 2:52:45.4 in Yonkers, New York.
The population was 376 in 1976, but it's been downhill since then. Let's hope it bottomed out in 2011 at 137. Trinity has rebounded lately, reaching 182 residents in 2021.
We stopped for a visit and looked around. St. Paul's Anglican Church is quite pretty as these things go. They've never painted the wood, giving the place a nice look. (The monument on the front is a tribute to Clinch.) Even so, a store by the waterfront that sold ice cream, chocolate and other goodies and souvenirs probably was more popular with our tour group than the church.
