Twilingate, Newfoundland: Long Point Lighthouse

The Long Point Lighthouse is billed as one of the most photographed places on the northeast coast of Newfoundland. Admittedly, that's a relatively narrow claim to fame. Also admittedly, it's certainly a nice spot for a visit.

The facility was built in 1876, and it's still operational today. It helps guide ships through Notre Dame Bay. One of the dangers of the area is icebergs - if you ever saw "Titanic," you know that bad things can happen in such situations. During our visit, we sort of saw one in the distance. I couldn't see the iceberg with the naked eye, but those with big zoom lenses on their cameras got a photo of it in the distance.

You can take a tour of the complex. Or, you can spend your time walking around the grounds. The views are quite nice.
