Nassau, Bahamas: Straw Market
There's a shopping district right along the waterfront in downtown Nassau. There is some high-end stuff for sale there, but most people at least take a look at the Straw Market, a tradition in the Bahamas that goes back decades.
There are indeed straw products here, but -- if the truth be told -- the place basically is a flea market. You can bargain with the vendors if you like, and there are plenty of T-shirts and other typical tourist items available.
The facility you see above does not exist any more. It was destroyed by fire in 2001. However, a new Straw Market has been placed in a nearby location.
