Key West, Florida: Hemingway Home and Museum

You have to go to the Hemingway house, if only to see the cats.

Famous author Ernest Hemingway indeed lived here in Key West, and wrote "For Whom the Bell Tolls" in a study that's located out back. He had plenty of books back there, which are still on display.

Hemingway is gone, but his cats' relatives live on. It seems that the author had several six-toed cats, and you can say hello to the descendants on the grounds today. You can also see the $20,000 swimming pool (in 1930's dollars); Hemingway threw a penny into the hardening concrete when he heard the price tag. The penny is still there.
