As tourist attractions go, this is unique. The centerpiece of the building is an archeology site, It's one way to preserve the history of the area. This used to be a market site, and the surrounding building looks like it still could be. But get inside and you'll see what Barcelona used to be.
The building also contains a look back at the Barcelona of 1700 as well as the Siege of 1714. They opened up on their 300th "birthday," and a promise has been make to keep them around through No. 400. It contains some special events, lectures, interviews, etc. The idea is to keep the region's history alive.
When we dropped in, the place was rather quiet and empty. Then again, we didn't pay to enter. There are guided tours available for visitors, and that includes a walk on the floor to see the digging up close. Without that, it was still fairly interesting as a quick stop.
