It's a rather unique idea. Anything involving a moving image is fair game for this place. The obvious starting points are film and television, but it also included video games, art and digital culture in general. It opened in 2009 or so, and received a major facelift in 2021. There are a variety of exhibits at a given time - some permanent, some temporary. As you'd expect, it has a strong online presence, including a YouTube channel.
It's a big part of Federation Square, which is something of a town square for the city of Melbourne. The very distinctive building certainly commands attention. You wouldn't expect a building about the moving image to be boring, and this certainly passes the test. It almost looks like a volcanic region in New Zealand ... or something.
