Dubrovnik, Croatia: Cathedral

Every good-sized city in Europe has to have a big, old, pretty cathedral. Dubrovnik checks off that box with this structure.

It is resting on a place that has been used for religious purposes for close to forever, or so it seems. The first church went up there in the 7th century, and replacements eventually followed. Supposedly Richard the Lion Heart helped to pay for one of the churches, as a thank you for being saved in 1192 after the Third Crusade.

The earthquake of 1667 forced everyone to start over again, and it took about four decades to do that job. Other earthquakes and some war-related activity have done some damage, but it's been repaired and still looks good in the middle of the city.

The dome still looks good, doesn't it?
