Bath, England: Pulteney Bridge

It's a bridge. It's a shopping area. It's both. It's the Pulteney Bridge in Bath.

It's also an interesting idea. Back in 1774, the Pulteney family wished to connect its land to the city of Bath, so this bridge was constructed. The unusual part is that a decision was made to include stores right on the bridge. It's said to be one of only four bridges in the world constructed that way.

There have been some floods along the way, causing revisions, and a few changes have been made to the original plan. But the road is still in use, at least for buses and taxes. I would guess that it will soon be dedicated to pedestrians only because of its age, but we're not there yet.

We walked around this area quite a bit during our visit. You might like to do the same here.
